Thompson Rivers 71 Lakehead 66 (UBC Invitational) – TRU gets a win over the OUA visitors, Lakehead, in the opener of UBC’s Invitational. The Orange, behind a big 36 point / 8 rebound performance from CW all-star, Volodymyr Iegorov, led. Alex Robichaud scored a team -high 15 points for the T-Wolves on 5/8 from 3 point range. “Defensively we didn’t execute the game plan tonight. Add one of the worst shooting performances of the year so I’m not surprised of the outcome”, commented Lakehead Coach Manny Furtado.

at UBC 96 Laurier 63 – The bigger ‘Birds run roughshod over the Golden Hawks, as the home team spreads the scoring, led by Conor Morgan’s 19, Patrick Simon’s 17, Jordan Jensen-Whyte with 15, and Luka Zaharijevic’s 14. at Primerica Tournament – at Lethbridge 103 Regina 90 – The ‘Horns light up the visiting U of R for 85 points in the first 3/4s , and go auto-pilot from there. Import star Elliott Sentance seems to like the air in S. Alberta, as he lays on another strong game posting 39 points on 14/22 from the floor, including 4 treys. Mike Pierzchala adds 22, and Josh Sparkes very efficient with 4/6 from way outside for 12 points. at Minnesota St. (Moorehead) 97 Winnipeg 70 – The Wesmen are out-shot 55% to 41% from the floor. Denzel Lynch-Blair leads scorers for the Ws with 15 pts/ 7 assists. Box Score
at Victoria 80 Mt. Royal 72 – The Vikes get by the Cougars in a game where the teams shot 62 foul shots between them. The Vikes hit 70% of theirs, while MRU are frustrated at 53% FT. More tellingly still were the 3 point stats, as the visitors make just 1/13, and UVic scores 12 more points with their 5/14. Grant Sitton scores 24 pts/ 5 rebounds for the home side, and he gets help from Justin Kinnear, with his 19 point/ 9 rebound effort in the post. MRU have Brett Layton posting a solid 22 point/ 15 rebound double, and he swats an amazing 7 Victoria shots as well. Nick Tancon hits 10 points and claims 9 rebounds. Box Score

- Nolan Hanson, 4th year wing man for the UNBC T-Wolves, on his return this season after a knee injury, operation , and a tough recuperation period. “I’ve been trusting my knee the whole time and haven’t really had any anxiety around (re-injuring it),” said Hanson, who has a smooth, deadly shot from the outside and likes to slash to the hoop when he gets the chance. “It’s been more around playing in general – just getting used to five-on-five CIS-level basketball again.” From an article by Jason Peters in the Prince George Citizen.
